Twitter Politics: Truthytweet watch is on for 2012

The Truthy Project has done a great job of getting the story out about astroturf efforts during the 2010 campaign. The political press loves this type of story. It combines new media with gotchas aimed at politicians. What could be better?

One phase of the political Twitter arms race is now defined. Campaigns will have both tweeting technology to get their own message out, and counter-tweeting technology to detect signs of truthytweets from their opponents. Any evidence of astroturf will spawn a wave of even more tweets pointing out the false tweets from opponents. We have entered the silly season and it isn’t even August of 2012.
